We do not pay you cash back for buying a policy. Here is why.

Paying a consumer for buying insurance is called rebating. It is prohibited by the unfair-trade-practice chapter of every state insurance code except California and Florida, and in those two the permission belongs to a licensed agent acting as agent of record — not to a comparison site. Running the payment through a marketing partner does not change the analysis: Massachusetts regulators addressed exactly that structure in Bulletin 2024-06. So our points are earned for contributing information and using the tools. You can earn the full amount without ever buying anything, which is what keeps the programme lawful.

How it works

  1. 1

    Join with an email

One field for your email, one for your state. No policy numbers, no date of birth, no social security number.

  2. 2

    Contribute what you know

Submit the annual premium on your current policy — car, home, renters, life — or run a calculator. Every accepted observation is paid.

  3. 3

    Redeem for a gift card

Once you clear the minimum, request a payout to the email of your choice. We review it and pay within five business days.

What pays, and what does not

Every earn event below can be completed without buying insurance from us or from anyone else.

Action Points Limit
Create an account One-off, after you confirm your email address +50 After email confirmation
Submit a premium observation The annual premium on a policy you already hold +150 2 per month
Run a calculator Each tool pays once per day +10 20 pts/day max
Refer a reader Paid once they have earned 150 points on their own +100 5 per month

Points are not paid for purchasing, renewing or cancelling any insurance product, and no partner pays us per application. Points have no cash value until redeemed and expire after 24 months of inactivity.

What you can redeem

Requests are reviewed by a person, not auto-approved. Minimum redemption is 500 points, and payouts open 14 days after signup.

The rules we hold ourselves to

1Points must not be contingent on buying insurance

The moment a reward is conditioned on a policy being bound, it becomes an inducement and the anti-rebating analysis applies. Earn events must be things the member can complete without buying anything: submitting a premium observation, running a calculator, referring someone who registers. If a member could earn the same points without ever buying a policy, the offer is not an inducement.

2Never promise a reward you will not pay

The FTC treats "falsely claiming that consumers who enroll will receive free offers, cash rewards, rebates, or other incentives" as a deceptive practice under § 5 of the FTC Act, with civil penalties that run per violation. A rewards page is a promise. Fund the liability before you publish it, and publish the payout terms (minimum, timing, expiry) in the same place the promise is made.

3Affiliate programme terms override your own

Nearly every CPA network and carrier prohibits "incentivized traffic" — paying the user to convert. Points for using a calculator are fine. Points for clicking a partner link are not, and will get the account terminated and the commissions clawed back. Check each partner record's notes before you attach it to a reward.

4Report the payouts

Rewards redeemed for cash or gift cards are generally taxable income to the recipient in the US. Track the value delivered per member per calendar year; issue Form 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC once the total crosses the reporting threshold, and collect a W-9 before the first cash-equivalent payout.
